National Overseas Scholarship – Coverage and Terms and Conditions
The efflux
of Indian students for abroad studies has considerably increased over the past
few years. Given the economic conditions of most students belonging to backward
classes, government has passed out many funding options for overseas
education. Central and State government scholarships are awarded every year
to exceptional candidates. One such Scheme Of National

It is
granted to students pursuing master and research programme in the field of

& Social Science
Annually,
scholarship application is invited for a hundred seats which only the
shortlisted, eligible student make up to. Out of these, 30% is reserved for
women candidates to propel them toward higher education.
Terms and
Conditions
Students
must have secured admission in an accredited university or institution only.
The academic
score secured at the bachelor and master level must be 55% along with work
experience in the related field.
The
candidate should not be older than 35 years of age.
A candidate
with at least 2 years of work experience in the related field is preferred for
the scholarship.
The family
income should not exceed 6 lakhs per annum.
Children belonging
to the same parent may apply for the same scholarship scheme however, only two
are likely to receive the award.
In case of
ongoing employment service, the candidate must issue a ‘No Objection
Certificate’ from the employer.
A married
candidate applying for the scheme decides to stay with spouse and children to
pursue higher education abroad must finance for their academic fee, passport
and visa. Spouse and children are not considered as part of the scheme.
Students
should not avail of any other scholarship from government or other organization
for the specified course if already mentioned in the application form of this scheme.
If the
candidate wishes to study in the universities of the USA, then only J-1 visa
should be applied for. F-1 visa holders cannot avail this scholarship.
The
candidate may not continue to receive the scholarship if decided to change the
course of study for which scholarship has been sanctioned.

What is
covered under this scheme?
Maintenance Allowance:
Students enrolling to universities in the USA and other countries except the UK
are granted 1500 USD per annum as a maintenance allowance for all courses
covered under the scheme. Students enrolling to the UK universities receive 9900 GBP, annually.
Contingency Allowance:
If the student has secured admission in the universities of the USA and other
countries are granted 1500 USD for books, study tour, travel, typing and
binding, apparatus, etc. whereas those pursuing in the UK are granted 1100 GBP,
annually.
Visa fees
are also covered under the scheme.
A medical
insurance premium will be paid on the behalf of the student.
Airfare of
tickets is covered, as well. This is all besides tuition fee expenses. The
scholarship amount sanctioned is only for the duration of PhD and master course
and cannot be extended further in any matter.
